CARLSBAD, Calif., March 21, 2024Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global leader in satellite communications, today announced that its InCommand solution was named the winner of the Government Mobile Innovation category in the Mobile Satellite User Association’s (MSUA) 2024 Satellite Mobile Innovation Awards. These annual awards recognize innovations in mobile connectivity on land, at sea, in the air and in space. With an emphasis on sustainability amid the expansion of commercial space activities, the awards prioritize the long-term health and safety of the space ecosystem, in accordance with MSUA’s mission.

As part of Viasat’s suite of space-to-space, multi-band, multi-orbit solutions, InCommand enables commanding and telemetry on-demand for space assets operating below geostationary orbit (GEO). It establishes real-time connectivity for space relay in support of low and medium Earth orbit satellites via Viasat’s L-band network, removing dependencies on ground infrastructure and helping ensure swift responses to satellite operation needs.

InCommand will support NASA’s Communications Services Project (CSP) in the Launch and Early Operations Phase (LEOP) and Mission operations. In an upcoming demonstration, the InCommand solution will use Viasat’s global L-band network to provide real-time telemetry, tracking and control (TT&C) operations at any point in a spacecraft’s orbit.

“The team at Viasat is honored to receive this award from MSUA,” said Susan Miller, President, Viasat Government. “This recognition underscores our commitment to developing and delivering innovative commercial solutions that address the current and evolving communication needs of near-Earth orbit operations, providing government and commercial operators with reliable, flexible and cost-effective space-relay communications as a service.”

MSUA announced the full list of 2024 Satellite Mobile Innovation Award winners following the awards presentation on March 19th.
