ViaSat LINKWAY VSATs Provide Networking for DataPath Mobile Military Communications Systems

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2007--ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ:VSAT) has received an additional order from DataPath, Inc. for LinkWay® satellite communications networking equipment for mobile military communications. The value of the contract is approximately $5.2 million. LinkWay VSATs have been designated a “Current Force Modem”, part of the military’s push to accelerate the adoption of new technology to enable more modular, mobile forces. DataPath is a global telecommunication systems integrator specializing in satellite earth terminals and networks, including the Joint Network Node (JNN) and Worldwide Satellite Systems programs.

The ViaSat Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) satellite networking equipment is being integrated into compact, trailer-based satellite terminals for sustained and reliable telecommunications in the field. The LinkWay system enables direct connections between battalion and brigade command locations without a central hub, and also uses ViaSat Dynamic Bandwidth Resource Allocation technology to cut satellite bandwidth costs through automatic, adaptive assignment and advanced coding. Quality of Service (QoS) features enable customers to establish priorities for different types of IP service traffic.
