ViaSat Launches Exede Business Internet Service

CARLSBAD, Calif., May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Exede® Business is a new service designed to provide small and medium-sized businesses with high-speed satellite Internet, a generous data allowance, priority maintenance and 24x7 U.S.-based customer support. This new business Internet service, from ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), is available in all or portions of more than 40 states covered by the ViaSat-1 satellite, the world’s highest capacity satellite.

ViaSat creates new ways to access advanced network applications with satellite and other wireless networking systems that enable fast, secure, and efficient communications to any location. The company provides networking products and services for enterprise and consumer IP applications and is a key supplier of military communications and encryption technologies to the U.S. government.
“Businesses in every corner of the country need reliable access to high-speed Internet to compete in their markets,” said Lisa Scalpone, vice president, ViaSat Broadband. “Exede Business provides a cost-effective option for business-grade high-speed Internet, especially in areas that might have been overlooked by wireline companies or have only cellular wireless access for Internet service. We believe we can help many small and medium-sized businesses improve the way they do business over the Internet.”

Exede Business includes higher speeds (15 Mbps) than are available with residential service, as well as a total monthly data allowance of 60 GB. Half of the allowance is available during the peak data period between 8 a.m. and 3 a.m., with an additional 30 GB available in the Early Morning Data Zone from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. - a useful feature for businesses performing data backup or daily reporting functions.

The service features a persistent IP address, which supports services such as remote LAN access, secure Virtual Private Network and other business applications.

The monthly package price also includes equipment lease fees. A U.S.-based customer care team provides 24x7 telephone support for Exede Business subscribers, who also receive priority maintenance service.

Over the past two years, the Exede service network has grown to include Exede Internet, providing high-speed Internet with download speeds of up to 12 Mbps; Exede Voice, providing phone service to residential subscribers; Exede In the Air, providing airline passengers on two major carriers with high-speed Internet; and Exede Enterprise, which provides communications for live events, newsgathering, field operations, and disaster response. ViaSat has also announced plans for the launch of another groundbreaking satellite, ViaSat-2, which is scheduled to launch in mid-2016. Its launch is expected to facilitate a significant expansion of Exede services and coverage areas.
