A mobile app designed for Viasat Internet customers was released Feb. 21 and is ready to download wherever you get your apps.
The Viasat Internet app is intended to help customers manage their Viasat residential service on their own from any location. Through it, they can troubleshoot their service, pay bills, reboot the modem, get service notifications, check data usage, add services and chat with an agent — among other tasks.
Planned future updates to the app will allow customers to enable parental controls, add security and more. Upcoming features will display the devices connected to a customer’s home network, providing a more complete picture of data usage and potential issues.
“It’s a handy app with a lot of potential,” Viasat Development Manager Ramya Venkataraman said.
Planned future upgrades have plenty in store, she said.
“If we see a TV in the house is having a poor signal, we can help resolve that,” she said. “Or if we see a customer’s data is being used quickly and it’s because malicious traffic is consuming the data, we will be able to suggest security products through the app.”
The app is not designed to replace EasyChat or Viasat’s customer text messaging service, but to provide another self-service option.
“The whole intent is to let the customers choose whatever works best for them,” Venkataraman said. “Some people don’t have smartphones, so they might choose SMS text. Others can use this.”
Creation of the app was a global effort, with employees from several Viasat offices contributing various aspects. Viasat Ireland’s Dublin team designed the user experience, Denver employees developed the app and engineers in India tested it.
“It was a good project that brought in teams from all over the world,” said Venkataraman. “It was literally picking the best Viasat has to offer from all areas and bringing all of it together to make a product. I’m surely proud of what we achieved.”
