With about 67 percent of the population using the internet, there are still millions of people in Mexico who don’t have access to a high-quality, reliable broadband internet connection. At Viasat, we’re working to increase access and expand the internet’s reach by offering a new residential satellite internet service.

Using bandwidth from ViaSat-2 — the world’s most advanced high-capacity communications satellite — the new residential service gives customers in select areas of Mexico the ability to connect with speeds up to 50 Mbps. That makes it the fastest satellite internet service available in the country. With this connectivity, they can enjoy reliable online access to social media, streaming content, video call services, sending/receiving emails and more, with some unique Viasat plan features and benefits like unlimited chat and web browsing.

Available today in select areas in nine states, the competitively priced service is expected to be rolled out to additional Mexican states in early 2020. Viasat is continuing to work with local distribution and fulfillment partners to make the service available in all states within Mexico.

“We are excited to continue to help close the digital gap in Mexico and connect people to everything the internet has to offer,” said Lisa Scalpone, Vice President of Latin America Residential Services at Viasat. “Our new internet service offerings are priced right for the Mexican consumer and will offer the fastest connections with dependable service quality to meet their everyday online needs.”

This is just the latest step in Viasat’s expansion of its satellite-based internet service across Mexico. Over the past few years, Viasat has increased its presence, successfully deploying its affordable Community Wi-Fi hotspot service to unconnected and poorly connected remote communities. The company also teamed up with telecom wholesaler Ubix to connect public spaces across the country through the “Internet para Todos” (Internet for All) program and was contracted by Aeromexico to bring high-speed in-flight connectivity to a portion of the airline’s commercial fleet.

The new residential service will further establish Viasat’s reputation as a trusted, credible satellite internet provider across the country. At the same time, it underscores the company’s deep and ongoing commitment to connect Mexico and its people to fast, reliable and high-quality internet services.
