In celebration of National Engineers’ Week we asked Viasat engineers five questions. Software engineer, McKenzie Velia who develops software for cybersecurity services shares her passion. Hint: Tony Stark isn’t just Iron Man, he’s an engineer super hero. #NextGenSTEM
Question: What is your favorite engineering feat in the world?
McKenzie Velia: The Egyptian pyramids. The water shaft theory is very cool – even if the Egyptians didn’t use it.
Q: Who is your favorite engineer super hero?
MV: Tony Stark, aka Iron Man! He built the suit and developed JARVIS.
Q: What is your engineering claim to fame or what is your most proud engineering moment?
MV: My resilience is my claim to fame. I feel most proud solving problems that some think are difficult or impossible to do.
Q: What do you hope to engineer?
MV: I would really like to work on language processing units for artificial intelligence. This way Siri will know when you’re being sarcastic, and she won’t be happy about it.
Q: What do you like about working for an engineering company like Viasat?
MV: I like that I learn something new every day, whether it’s about the projects we work on or the people here at Viasat. I like knowing that our products and services are made to help people.
